What does life drawing fo for me, in terms of my art practice?
I thought I would start with a small sketch I drew myself a couple of years ago (or sometime before lockdowns), when we had regular guest models.
For me, drawing from life helps me try new things with colour that I would be hesitant to do if I'm drawing at home. I am usually slow at drawing, taking a lot of time to choose colours and making things very life-like. Being under time pressure with a live model forces the drawing process into quicker, more confident decisions. I always learn something new. I know when I draw at home later that my confidence is a bit less crumpled. I'd almost say I feel brave, but I still have a habit of talking myself out of drawing because of fear of the blank page!
But having friendly folks around me on a Monday night totally gives me a confidence buzz that helps me produce work and the chat and sharing of techniques and ideas is incredibly uplifting.
🙂🙏
